El Paso Named One of Least Funny Cities in the U.S.

El Pasoans are not a funny people - at least according to the University of Colorado at Boulder. A new study conducted by the university’s Humor Research Lab (yes, there’s such a thing) declared El Paso one of America’s 10 least funny cities.

The team of experts reached that conclusion after ranking the 50 biggest cities in the U.S. based on data that included the number of comedy clubs, famous comedians born there, traveling comedians’ ratings of local audiences, and the frequency of residents visits to humor websites.

Considering the fact that we only have one comedy club, and the most famous funny person born here as per Wikipedia’s list of famous El Pasoans is Lydia Cornell, it shouldn’t be too big a surprise their algorithm didn’t score El Paso high. On the upside, nine other cities were deemed less funny than ours.
