The holidays are right around the corner and that means food and family, but some El Paso families have trouble putting food on the table on a regular day, much less during the holidays. They rely on the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank to help them feed their families, but right now, the shelves at the food bank are dangerously empty.

El Paso Food Donations Down

Food banks should be stocked enough to distribute about 80 pounds of food per person per year in El Paso, but right now our local food bank can only distribute 40 pounds per person. Summer months are tough for food banks because people are on vacation, kids are out of school, and donating just isn’t high on people’s list of priorities. Then there are expenses that everyone has to cover like rent and utilities which makes donating even less of a priority.

That's why El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank officials say every little bit helps fill their shelves. The food bank can turn every dollar donated into 11 dollars worth of food. If you would like to hold your own food drives, you are also encouraged to do that, as well.

If you would like to donate to the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank, you can drop off non-perishable food items at 9541 Plaza Circle El Paso. You can also go to their website, elpasoansfightinghunger.org, and make a donation online.
