It seems like every summer in El Paso is marked by stories of drownings and near-drownings. Backyard swimming pools and kids are often a deadly combination, so the Drowning Prevention Coalition of El Paso and the El Paso Fire Department are offering free lessons on basic, hands-only CPR this month.

Someone knowing CPR could mean the difference between life and death in a drowning situation. Fire department officials say they want to teach people to call 9-1-1 first, and then do hands-only CPR until help can get there.
If you complete the 20-minute class, you will get a free swim pass to any YWCA, YMCA, or El Paso Parks and Recreation swimming pool, good for any day through August 31, 2016.

There will also be free hot dogs and hamburgers for anyone who completes the class, and 100 people will win a free Wet ‘N’ Wild Waterworld day pass.

WHEN: Saturday, May 21, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
