Road closures on surface streets are one thing, but closing down the freeway is a whole nuther thing. Get ready for a nuther thing this weekend.

El Paso Electric is doing work on the TxDOT Border West Expressway project and will be closing down I-10 Sunday, June 25, from 4 a.m. to 2 p.m. The closure is from downtown exit to the Executive Center exit. The work should be done by 2 p.m., but the good news is that work that has shut down the freeway in the past has been completed more quickly than expected, so much of the time, the freeway opens earlier than expected.

EPE will be removing transmission wires that cross I-10 and installing new distribution lines. New fiber wire will also be installed. If you would like more information on the project, you can go to the El Paso Electric website.

CLOSURES AND DETOURS:

Westbound: Traffic will get off the freeway at the Downtown exit and proceed to Mesa Street, then turn right onto Mesa at I-10 to re-enter I-10 west.

Eastbound: Traffic will get off the freeway at Executive Center Boulevard and go left to Mesa Street. Make a right on Mesa Street to Franklin Avenue and turn left onto Franklin to re-enter I-10 east.
