Triple digit heat affects not only how you feel outside, it also affects how much energy you use to stay cool inside. High levels of energy usage are what the El Paso Electric Company is trying to prevent. They are asking the the public to conserve energy at work and at home during this extreme heat days.

They say there are a number of ways you can cut your energy usage:

At work:
· Turn off any lights when offices and/or conference rooms are not in use.
· Unplug any electronics that are not in use.
· Unplug chargers from outlets when not in use.

At home:

· Avoid using the oven; cook on the stove or use a microwave.
· Unplug any electronics that will not be in use during the day when the home is not occupied.
· Close curtains and blinds during the day whether you're home or not. Doing so could keep your home up to 30% cooler during the day.
· Set programmable refrigerated air conditioning to 78° while you're at home, and 80° when you're going to be gone for longer than seven hours.
· Use fans as much as possible, whether it's a ceiling fan, floor fan or wall-mounted. Turn off fans when the room is not occupied - fans cool people, not rooms.
· Unplug any electronics that are not in use.
· Unplug chargers from outlets when not in use.
