Increased traffic is expected in far east El Paso County this Fourth of July, and El Paso County Commissioners say they are going to do what they have to to keep people safe. The County didn't ban fireworks this Fourth of July because the drought index isn't high enough, so thousands of people are expected to head to Montana Vista to take advantage of the holiday to light up the sky with fireworks.

County Judge Veronica Escobar says because of that expected traffic, the County will be putting up street barricades to limit access to neighborhoods in Montana Vista and the unincorporated areas near Horizon City. The barricades will be installed where Flager, Krag, Vista del Este, and Buntline intersect with Marvin Lane. They will not be manned with El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies. There will also be barricades near Loop 375 and I-10, Paseo del Este and Stansbury.

The barricades will be up but unmanned because deputies will be patrolling other high-traffic areas like Montana Avenue.

All agencies involved in the Fourth of July response will track their extra costs. That will give County leaders an idea of how much needs to be spent during the holiday, and how much is actually spent.
