At Monday's El Paso County Commissioners Court meeting, commissioners met a dog named Dino. Dino worked with Sal and Sandra Diaz's son, Christopher Diaz, while he was serving our country in the Armed Forces. Christopher was a Staff Sergeant and was killed while deployed in Afghanistan in 2011.

The Diaz's adopted Dino, an 11-year-old Belgian Malinois, after his tour was over. Sal says he believes that Dino the dog knows that he and Sandra are Christopher's parents. In Dino, the Diaz's say they have a part of Christopher's heart. They also credit Dino with helping them get through the grieving process over the loss of their son. Dino was with Christopher on the day he was killed, and Sandra says that having him with her brings her joy.

Commissioners heard about Dino and Christopher, and approved a resolution honoring the "Dawgs Project," which honors the work of military dogs happening this weekend.

We thank Sal and Sandra Diaz for bringing their story and the story of Christopher and Dino to El Pasoans. We thank Christopher and his service and honor his sacrifice. We pray for Sal and Sandra, and for Dino.
