El Paso Chihuahuas Cancel ‘Salute to Gabriel Iglesias’ Amid Misunderstanding
No, Gabriel Iglesias is not going to be attending the El Paso Chihuahuas’ ‘Salute to Gabriel Iglesias’ night on Wednesday, August 31.
In fact, the team’s planned homage to the “fluffy” comedian has been scrapped altogether after Iglesias’ management contacted them and questioned the way the team was promoting the event.
In reality, he was never scheduled to appear in the first place.
But one fan apparently misunderstood the team's advertising and asked Gabriel via Twitter if he was coming to the game. His tweet was accompanied by an image of the team's Facebook post.
@fluffyguy Is this true? Are you coming to watch your favorite pet? pic.twitter.com/vL4h7SGBt8

Iglesias replied that he was never invited.
Sorry, I will not be at the @epchihuahuas game Aug 31st as I was never invited to my own salute. Next time 4 sure 👍🏽 https://t.co/J4UZDYo0Nz — Gabriel Iglesias (@fluffyguy) August 24, 2016
The Chihuahuas then clarified that Fluffy would not be in attendance, and apologized for the misunderstanding.
Gabriel Iglesias will not be at the Chihuahuas game on Wednesday, August 31st. Sorry for the confusion.

At some point after that, Iglesias' management contacted team officials and the night's promotion was cancelled.
Sara Sanchez, online content provider for the El Paso Times, messaged Iglesias via social media, and here's what he told her regarding the celebration's cancellation, per the Times:
My concern was that it misled my fans who thought I was going to be in attendance or performing," said Iglesias. The team put my face and name on everything including ticket links. They pulled out after my management team reached out."
Earlier this season the team did a 'Salute to Selena' night honoring the slain Tejano Music Queen, and they've also dedicated nights to The Rat Pack and Elvis Presley, as well as a ‘Tribute to Muhammad Ali’.
I suspect the planned Gabriel Iglesias celebration went awry because he's still very much alive and all the other celebs they've honored aren't very active on social media since, you know, they've already passed on.
Except for maybe Elvis.
