According to KVIA, the Borderland’s been buzzing with the news that "El Chapo" Guzman has been transferred from Altiplano prison, which he famously broke out of, to Cefereso  No. 9 prison in Juarez.

Speculation is that this move is in anticipation of Guzman’s extradition to the United States, a process that some news sources say his lawyers are appealing.  Other news outlets meanwhile indicate he’s asked for immediate extradition due to poor prison conditions in Mexico.

CNN is reporting that the United States has spent months preparing for Guzman’s eventual transfer and extradition and that he will eventually be sent to Brooklyn in order to stand trial.  Of course it’s too early to say what if any local effect this move will have but it’s worth keeping an eye on.
