Congratulations to the boys cross country team at Eastwood High School for being the first team ever from El Paso to qualify for the Nike Cross National meet.

The boys cross country team at Eastwood High School has been diligently working for years to achieve the national honor of qualifying for the Nike Cross National meet this weekend.

Nike hosts the only national championship for any high school sport in the nation. The Eastwood High School boys cross country team has been working towards this goal since 2011 and are finally going to Portland, OR this weekend to try and win on a national level competing against 22 other teams from across the nation.

El Paso is behind these kids one hundred percent and when I spoke to their coach Michael McLain, he was just beaming with excitement stating that, “It’s a dream come true, it’s been a goal for our program and a goal that we’ve reached together. As a coach it’s been a dream of mine to take a team there but it’s also really cool to be able represent the city of El Paso when we go there. And hopefully we’re the first of many teams that will go to Nike Cross Nationals from now on.”

We wish these kids much success and there’s no doubt why Eastwood High School Troopers are considered El Paso’s Finest – way to go!
