David Guetta became the first DJ to put his hands in cement at Grauman’s Chinese Theatre in Hollywood during a ceremony over the weekend. Guetta attended a ceremony in Grauman’s Ballroom on Dec. 3 and performed a live set to celebrate.

Guetta’s camp claims the singer is the first musician ever to get handprinted at Grauman’s, though that’s only partially true. Cher received the honor just last year, as did Will Smith in 2007, though it could be argued that both of those performers were also actors who were being recognized for their movie successes.

So why was Guetta given the honor ahead of more iconic music artists like Madonna, Aretha Franklin and Bruce Springsteen? The legendary theater, which displays the handprints, footprints and autographs of nearly 200 movie stars dating back to the 1920s, has just started a musicians-only handprint series called “Handprints Homage,” and Guetta was selected to honor his status as the world’s best-selling DJ of all time.

The French DJ is up for two 2012 Grammy Awards for his latest album, ‘Nothing But the Beat,’ and his song with Usher, ‘Without You,’ reached No. 4, making it the highest-charting U.S. single of his career.
