Outlaw country singer David Allan Coe was injured in a serious automobile accident in Ocala, Fla. early this morning (March 19). Coe, 73, reportedly ran a red light, at which point he was hit by a semi. And the wreckage tells the story.

The semi hit the side of Coe’s vehicle and pushed it into a parking lot — but thankfully, at least the Coe had the good sense to be wearing a seat belt. The impact flipped the truck on its side and wrapped it around a cement pole.

Coe’s longtime manager Bruce Smith told the Ocala Star-Banner (where you can see more crash photos) that the singer is “doing OK.”

Unfortunately, the driver of the truck isn’t faring as well. Robert Johnson, 59, and his passenger, Lisa Meade, 49, were both taken to a local hospital, where Meade was later treated and released but Johnson is listed “in serious condition.”

Coe was cited by police for running the light, and as a result of the injuries he sustained, he cancelled two forthcoming concerts in St. Louis and Louisville.

DAC rose to prominence in the ’70s alongside other members of the Outlaw movement like Willie Nelson. Coe is most famous for hits like ‘You Never Even Called My by My Name’ and ‘The Ride,’ and he’s written tracks for numerous other artists — including Johnny Paycheck’s disgruntled employee anthem ‘Take This Job and Shove It.’
