If you have never climbed Mt. Cristo Rey, you can make the trek up next Sunday, October 29. The 78th Annual Mt. Cristo Rey Pilgrimage is a great time to walk up the mountain because it is not considered a safe climb in a small group or alone. It is also an honored tradition for Catholics in El Paso, Las Cruces and Juarez.

The Most Reverend Ricardo Ramirez C.S.B. Bishop Emeritus of Las Cruces will joining other local clergy on the pilgrimage.

The annual event is held to commemorate the completion of the monument, as well as to celebrate the Christian feast of Christ the King, which is the Sunday preceding All Saints Day. You will be able to access McNutt Road, but the Cristo Rey entrance will only be available via Sunland Park Dr. and Country Club Road because of surrounding road closures. You will need to get to the gathering site early so that you can go up in the larger group.

The pilgrimage is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. on Sunday, October 29. Gates will open at 6 a.m. and close at 2 p.m. Mass will be held at the top of Mt. Cristo Rey at noon.
