The City of El Paso is working on trying to get a downtown arena built, they’re talking to the MountainStar Sports Group about possibly going into a public/private partnership to build a soccer stadium to bring minor league soccer to town, and now, they want to know what you think should be done with Cohen Stadium.

Yes, kids, the City is still trying to work out what should be done with the last place the Diablos played baseball. The City is going to be holding a meeting and they want you to show up and help them “shape a comprehensive master plan for the Cohen Stadium site.”

The City says they want to revitalize the Cohen Stadium site and provide a catalyst for development in Northeast El Paso that will become a destination point.

With the success of the small splash parks that have been put in each district, I think a really amazing splash park with a ton of amenities would be a great thing to put at Cohen. Imagine a slip and slide that runs from home plate to center field? How about a forest of trees that shower you with water? A lazy river could be built around the perimeter of the field. There are already concession stands, and the VIP boxes could be retrofitted to provide showers and changing areas.

If you want to give your ideas to the City, head to the meeting next week.

WHEN: 6 p.m., Monday, October 23
