Chico, the mascot for the El Paso Chihuahuas has been chosen to be the grand marshal at the annual Independence Day Parade.

The parade now in its 18th year will take place on July 4th beginning at 9 a.m. starting at Western Hills Methodist Church finishing at Coronado High School.

This year the Rotary Club of El Paso, sponsors of the parade, will include a Chihuahua dog contest which will take place from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. on the day of the parade.

Entry to the dog contest is free and you can sign up your Chihuahua at rotarywestelpaso.org. Although the contest is free to enter, donations are being accepted.

There will be three categories which include: Best Chico mini me, best patriotic Chihuahua and best wanna be Chihuahua.

Prize for first place is $1,000, second place is $750, third place is $500 and fourth place is $250.
