America saved Jamar Rogers for Team Cee Lo on ‘The Voice,’ so Juliet Simms and Cheesa had to perform for the save on tonight’s (April 24) elimination episode. Cee Lo is the lady killa, so this battle was probably equally difficult for him. He ended up choosing Simms, ultimately ending Cheesa’s time in the competition. Rogers and Simms will represent Cee Lo’s beloved Team Red in the semis next week.

Cheesa the diva sang ‘Already Gone,’ which is to be expected of a vocalist of her caliber. She has a voice to be reckoned with, but the coaches noted that she was a hair under pitch for much of the song except during the last notes, which she hit, so it was an unbalanced perf.

Simms, the rocker of Season 2 of the show, sang ‘Torn,’ a song made popular by pop singer Natalie Imbruglia in the 1990s. It was a different style for such an edgy vocalist, since we are used to her raspy, riotous style. She showed restraint when she needed and tore it up when it was appropriate. It was a perfectly balanced performance. That’s why she notched the save.

Before announcing his choice, Cee Lo asked his lovely ladies to show him their smiles. Cheesa managed a smile through a torrent of tears.

After the last chance performances, Cee Lo made his choice and we think he did so wisely. Based on tonight’s do-or-die perfs, Simms took it.
