So we have all heard of the '5 second rule' which is SUPPOSEDLY the amount of time we have to eat something off the ground once it is dropped.  Many feel differently whether it is at home or at a restaurant.

So the science folks have now changed it that there is a 5 second rule and a NEW 30 minutes rule, wait what?  According to Professor Anthony Hilton of Anton University,  "Not only do they not pick up much bacteria on impact with the floor, but they do not get any additional contamination over time" from Live 24 News.

OKAY, so these are the FOODS you CAN drop:

PICK THESE UP WITHIN 5 SECONDS

DONUTS

COOKED PASTA

CHIPS

SWEETS(didn't say what types)

TOAST WHICH FALLS JELLY SIDE DOWN

GOOD TO LEAVE FOR 30 MINUTES

CHOCOLATE

DRY TOAST

SANDWICHES

DRY FOODS

The theory was tested on variety of foods on tiles, linoleum, and carpet that had 10 million bacteria.  They said it was not so safe to leave sticky foods, which gather more bacteria, which load up with those pesky germs after falling to the ground, duh?!

Web MD made their own research and it showed GUMMI BEARS AND COOKIES that had fallen on the floor had E-coli climb on them before the 5 second mark!
