Armed Forces Day is Saturday, May 18th, and Fort Bliss is opening the base to everyone for a day fun at the Fort!

Activities kick off at 7 a.m. with the Third Annual Armed Forces Day Triathlon which includes a 400-meter swim, a 15-mile bike route and a 5-kilometer run.  All active-duty military, family members, DoD civilians and the El Paso community are invited to join in.  You can call 744-5793 or 744-5794 for more information.

Other Armed Forces Day activities are happening at Biggs Park in east Fort Bliss.

  • The 1st Armored Division Band’s Brass Quintet will play at 10 a.m.
  • Military Police Working Dog Teams, the 1 AD Band’s Show Band, and the Armed and Unarmed Drill Teams Competition will also hold exhibitions.
  • The public will be able to talk with military personnel to learn more about what they do, and get an up close look at Abrams Tanks, Bradley Fighting Vehicles, Patriot Launchers, Blackhawk helicopters, and much more.

Austin, Burges, El Dorado, Horizon, Jefferson, and Socorro high school JROTC armed and unarmed drill teams will compete with precision drills, and there will even be a ‘Salute the Troops Car Show’ that will feature about 100 of the best Hot Rods, Street Rods, Classics, Muscle Cars, and Modern Performance vehicles in the Southwest.
