The City of El Paso has announced that the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing will open temporarily on Monday, June 13, 2016.

The scheduled temporary re-opening of the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing will run concurrent with the duration of the Carolina Bridge Reconstruction project; the temporary re-opening will provide emergency vehicles and local traffic only with an alternative route during the bridge’s reconstruction.

With the temporary re-opening of the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing, trains will once again be required to utilize air horns at the crossing throughout the duration of the project.

The Carolina Bridge Reconstruction project is being managed by the Texas Department of Transportation and encompasses the removal and replacement of the existing bridge and its approaches located at the intersections of Alameda Avenue and Stiles Drive.  The new bridge will house one lane in each direction, left turn lanes at each intersection, pedestrian sidewalks and ramps on both sides of the bridge as well as decorative fencing. The bridge reconstruction project is estimated to take approximately one year to complete.

Adequate traffic control measures will be in place to direct the traveling public through the affected areas while the work is in progress. The detour routes for thru traffic during the bridge reconstruction project will be Yarbrough and Delta drives.

Once the bridge reconstruction project is complete, the Cadwallader Drive railroad crossing will be closed permanently.
