There is a HazMat situation near Santa Teresa airport, at 2500 Airport Road near the Santa Teresa Port of Entry. The Mesilla Valley Regional Dispatch Authority has activated a reverse 911 call to alert residents and businesses within one mile of the incident. They are asking people to close doors, windows, turn off any air conditioners or heaters that bring air from the outside, and to stay indoors.
Authorities are still investigating the situation. Travelers and media have been advised to stay at least one mile from the area until the area is cleared for traffic. As more information is received, the public will be alerted. The Doña Ana County Emergency Operations Center is in standby status. The command center is at Santa Teresa High School, but no students have been evacuated. 200 people are being treated for exposure to an unknown substance.
