Blast From The Past – One Time World’s Tallest Man Was An El Pasoan

I came across the following article on the El Paso Times’ website. Jake Erlich grew to be 8 feet 6 inches tall and was raised in El Paso. He appeared in movies as a child, joined the Ringling Brother’s Circus and eventually became a traveling wine salesman.
He met one man taller than him in his life time, an 8 foot 9 inch man named Robert Wadlow, and when asked about him he said, “I was so flabbergasted when I saw him the only thing I could think to say was, ‘How’s the weather up there?’… He didn’t like it either.”
Turns out Mr. Erlich was a pretty funny man too. Check out this link to an interview done back in 1950 from the El Paso Times. It’s a fun read.
