FESTIVALS, CONCERTS & STAGE

Plaza Classic Film Festival – The “world’s largest classic film festival” features movies of all genres and for all age groups shown at various downtown locations including the historic Plaza Theatre. Most are a few buck, others free to see. More Details

Alfresco! Fridays – FREE outdoor concert featuring Windy City (Chicago Tribute). 6 p.m. Friday at the Convention Center Plaza, downtown. More Details

El Paso Playhouse Presents ‘Calendar Girls’ – The hilarious 2003 movie that starred Helen Mirren staged as a play. Friday – Sunday at the El Paso Playhouse, 2501 Montana. Ticket prices vary. More Details

Music on the Lawn at Fountains at Farah – Local and regional bands perform in the Fountains at Farah Pavilion. Saturday 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. This week’s performers are San Ligre, This Dead City, Fools Like Me. FREE. More Details

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Family Dollar Day at Western Playland  – Take in the 30+ rides for cheap. $1 admission, ride tickets and snacks on Friday, 7 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., 1249 Futurity Dr., Sunland Park, NM, across from Sunland Park Racetrack & Casino. Admission $1. More Details

Ascarate Fishing Club’s Kids Fish Derby – Children participating in the event will be provided with fishing poles, and lunch. Saturday, 7:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. at Ascarate Park, 6900 Delta Drive. FREE, although there will be a $2 per vehicle parking fee. (915) 755-0983 or (915) 751-3891

KISS-FM Fireworks Night at the El Paso Chihuahuas Baseball – El Paso’s Triple A team hosts the Las Vegas 51s Saturday night. Fireworks Spectacular after the game. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Ticket prices vary. More Details

City Spray Parks – 8 neighborhood park spray pads (1 in each city district) each with approximately 15-30 water features and shaded picnic areas. All FREE to use and open to the public daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. More Details

City of El Paso Swimming Pools – The city’s outdoor and indoor aquatic facilities are open for recreational swimming. Hours vary by location. Admission is $1-$2. More Details

MOVIE SERIES

Plaza Outdoors – Classic movies screened outdoors, downtown. A local band performs prior to movie showing. Both are FREE to see. Friday, “Chuck Berry: Hail! Hail! Rock ‘n’ Roll” + music from The Fox and the Sound. Saturday, “Xanadu” + music from Dusty Low. More Details.

Summer of Love Brunch Series at Alamo Drafthouse – Sunday morning screenings featuring the greatest romantic films of all time. Ticket includes brunch and a glass of wine. This week’s movie is Steel Magnolias. Movie starts at 11 a.m. More Details
