Before popping the question to his girlfriend, Russian man Alexey Bykov wanted to give her a quick taste of what her life would be like without him. So the 30-year-old businessman hired a stuntman, a make-up artist, actors and even a screenwriter to help him fake his own death.
If you were a girl growing up in the ’80s or ’90s, you probably read ‘The Baby-Sitters Club,’ an almost 100-book-strong series of novels from Ann M. Martin that focuses on a collective of junior high school students who run an unlicensed child care business in their spare time.
A reoccurring theme of movies during the mid-’80s was that of scrappy kids beating the odds. Daniel-son had to defeat the Cobra Kai in ‘The Karate Kid’ and the teens of Calumet, Colorado had to fight off most of the communist block in ‘Red Dawn.’ But probably the biggest underdogs were ‘The Goonies,’ a band of misfits from the goon docks of Astoria, Oregon who had to outlast a fugitive family to find the amply booby-trapped treasury of 17th Century pirate “One-Eyed Willie” and prevent their parents’ homes from being turned into a golf course.
While never a huge hit during its original run, ‘The Brady Bunch’ just grew and grew in pop cultural significance after getting cancelled in 1974. So to cash in on the series’ unusual trajectory its creators reunited the original cast for various TV movies, variety shows, spin-offs and TV specials throughout the ’70s and ’80s. Then, finally, in 1995, they rebooted the squeaky clean franchise with all new actors.
Gymnast Aly Raisman was one of the big stories of the opening weekend of the 2012 London Summer Olympic Games. The 18-year old from Needham, Ma. qualified for the all-around title, knocking teammate, world champion and best friend Jordyn Wieber out of the competition that Wieber would have been the favorite in.
But the most entertaining part of Raisman’s near flawless routine was her parents’ reaction to it.
In July of 2008, the carcass of a bloated, chimera-like animal washed ashore in Long Island. The ‘Montauk Monster‘ terrified and fascinated the nation that summer, with zoologists eventually concluding the beast was probably a water-damaged raccoon, rather than some sort of byproduct of a top-secret experiment gone horribly wrong.
Four years later, it looks like we have another monster on our hands.
‘The Dark Knight Rises‘ hits theaters July 20th. This means we are now solidly into the “bat days” of summer. Jimmy Fallon played his part in hyping the much-anticipated movie with a sketch in which Paul Reubens uses his Pee-wee Herman voice to overdub all the voices in a ‘Dark Knight Rises’ trailer.
X-ray scanners have caught air travelers with all sorts of strange and embarrassing things in their carry-on luggage. But it would be hard to top the images captured last week at the Shar-Jah Airport in the United Arab Emirates when an Egyptian couple stuffed their five-month-old in a suitcase and tried to sneak him past security.
While McDonald’s tastes good, it doesn’t always seem like it is made from the kind of natural ingredients you could buy in a grocery store. As part of McDonald’s Canada’s ongoing campaign to demystify their fare, executive chef Dan Coudreaut demonstrates in this video how you can actually make a Big Mac in your own kitchen using simple, readily available ingredients.
