The Best Burgers Joints in El Paso
I recently took to the Mike and Tricia Facebook page to find out who in El Paso you thought had the juiciest, tastiest, best burger in town. I’d be lying if I didn’t say I'm surprised with your overwhelming choice.
Not because I don’t think they serve up some yummy burgers, because I do, but because it’s not one of the usual suspects. In fact, the burger you voted the best comes from ... gasp! ... a chain restaurant. Here are the Top 3 places you said serve up El Paso's Best Burgers:
#3 Papa Burgers
Good old-fashioned diner quality hamburgers served out of a converted house on N. Piedras. It’s not a big place, I counted 8 tables and 3 ½ booths, and they don’t knock them out as fast as a Mickey D’s or a BK does but they’re definitely worth the wait.
#2 Rosco’s
Like Papa Burgers, Roscos grills their burgers out of a converted house in Central El Paso. And the available seating isn’t much better than Papa either with a seating capacity of 50. But there ‘s a reason why it wins "Best Of" accolades time after time, and the parking lot starts filling up fast by 11:30: the juicy, greasy burgers with grilled onions, diced lettuce, pickles, and sliced tomatoes consistently kick butt!!!
#1 Whataburger
Unlike the other burger joints on the list, Whataburger—or, "Waterburger" as its endearingly pronounced around here, is a chain. You can’t drive more than a few miles without seeing an orange W hanging up in the air, and that’s probably one of the reasons it was the clear winner. There’s something to be said for convenience. But that’s just a plus.
The burger itself is your standard 1/4-pound patty on a toasted bun. Something about that simplicity coupled with the lettuce, tomato, pickles and onions that just works. I honestly can’t explain why they’re so good. They just are. A word to the wise, though; don’t ever leave a Whataburger bag – empty or full – in your car for any amount of time!
