Starbucks caused quite a stir on social media earlier this week when people realized that their holiday cups were just red cups with the green Starbucks logo. A lot of people accused the coffee giant of waging war on Christmas. The company said that was nonsense, and explained that they were just going with red cups in order to give customers a blank slate to put their own holiday stories on.

I don't like that they don't say 'Merry Christmas', but that's just because I'm Catholic and Christmas is what we are celebrating. Of course, there is also Chanukah, which this year is celebrated from December 6 through December 14, and Kwanzaa, which is celebrated from December 26 through January 1. Truly, this is the holiday season, and for that reason, I guess 'Happy Holidays' would have been better than nothing, but there are certainly no shots being fired at Christmas by Starbucks.

Now, Dunkin' Donuts is getting into the seasonal fray by issuing it's holiday cup. The company has this to say about its wreathed 'Joy' cup:

"For many years Dunkin’ Donuts has served coffee in festive cups featuring the word 'joy' as part of our annual celebration of the season and holiday offerings. We believe this conveys the happiness and spirit of the holiday season in a way that resonates with our guests."

I think we are all drinking too much coffee is something as silly as this makes us crazy. I say we stop and get a martini, instead!
