A Mike and Tricia Facebook page commenter wondered a couple of days ago why, in mentioning graduation this year, Mike hadn't used his traditional "congraduations", or why we hadn't done our graduation speeches as we had in years past.  Mike said he didn't think anyone would notice.

I kinda wondered why we didn't do them either, but I do what Big Daddy says, so I just went along with the program.  But I wonder what would have happened if, instead of our usual upbeat, inspirational, and forward-looking speeches, we had given one like an English high school teacher did in Wellesley, Massachusetts did.

David McCullough decided to do away with the sugar-coating when he let this year's graduating seniors in on a couple of interesting statistics, like, the fact that there are 3.2 million seniors graduating from high school this year from 37,000 high schools.  That means, 37,000 valedictorians who think they are the best and the brightest, and 340,000 jocks who think their destiny's are in professional sports!

If you want to listen to the entire speech and marvel in the bare-faced truth as told by high school English teacher, David Wellesley, check it out here:

So what do you think?  Is graduation the time for rose-colored glasses, or the god's honest truth?
