New Mexico’s biggest weekend for back to school shopping is upon us. The Gross Receipts Tax Holiday, which has become a shopping event much like Black Friday but without all the early morning Walmart trampling, is set for the weekend of August 5.

Beginning at 12:01 a.m. that Friday through midnight Sunday, August 7, Las Crucens can save money at the cash register on many back-to items and clothing.

To qualify for the tax break, clothing or shoes must be priced at less than $100 per unit. School supplies for use in standard, general-education classrooms must be under $30 per unit. The price limit for desktop, laptop or notebook computers is $1,000. Related computer hardware must be under $500.
