The 2016 season of Movies in the Canyon kicks off this weekend at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre with a free showing of Ferris Bueller's Day Off on Friday, August 19, and Sixteen Candles on Saturday, August 20.

Right around dusk every Friday and Saturday through October 1 (approximately 8:30 p.m. this time of year, 7:30 p.m. in the fall), movies will be shown on a giant state-of-the-art movie screen set up on the stage of the amphitheater.

Outdoor movie-loving El Pasoans know there are more than a few options and opportunities to watch a movie under the open sky this time of the year, mostly in a city park, but none of them compare to the vibe and scenic beauty of the canyon. Watching a movie under the stars at McKelligon Canyon Amphitheatre is truly spectacular. And they’re all free to see!

Unlike other outdoor movie screenings around town though, you will not be allowed to bring your own food or drinks. Popcorn, soft drinks and other snacks will be available at the concession stand for a few bucks. A blanket or light jacket, however, is encouraged -- especially when it cools off in the canyon beginning in September.
