El Paso shoppers will once again catch a break at the cash register on back-to-school items thanks to the state’s annual tax free weekend.

From Friday, August 7 to Sunday, August 9 a sales tax will not be tacked onto your purchases of certain eligible items. That means on average, you’ll save about $8 for every $100 you spend.

However, the law doesn't exempt everything. While most clothing, footwear, school supplies, and backpacks are tax-free, textbooks, computers and software are not. A breakdown of the items that are exempt can be found here, a list of qualifying school supplies here, and frequently asked questions are answered here.
