2 Million Facebook Fans Rally to Help Boy Have a Great Birthday

Meet Colin, a 10-year-old boy with a social disorder similar to Asperger syndrome who wasn't excited about celebrating his 11th birthday because he didn't have any friends. That's when his mom took to Facebook looking for supportive words to pass along to him. Two millions fans later, Colin is receiving more letters and presents than his mailbox can hold.

On February 2nd, 2014, Colin's mom wrote:

I am Colin's mom, I created this page for my amazing, wonderful, challenging son who is about to turn 11 on March 9th. Because of Colin's disabilities, social skills are not easy for him, and he often acts out in school, and the other kids don't like him. So when I asked him if he wanted a party for his birthday, he said there wasn't a point because he has no friends. He eats lunch alone in the office everyday because no one will let him sit with them, and rather than force someone to be unhappy with his presence, he sits alone in the office. So I thought, if I could create a page where people could send him positive thoughts and encouraging words, that would be better than any birthday party. Please join me in making my very original son feel special on his day.

Fast-forward less than three weeks later and Colin's parents are making daily trips to the post office to pick up countless gifts. Facebook users across the globe are sending well-wishes and happy birthday messages every few seconds on Colin's page. Firefighters in nearby towns and soldiers in other countries are submitting their photos and videos for Colin. But the very best part is this -- Colin doesn't know yet. His birthday isn't until March 9th and by then, his family might need another house just to store all the letters!

So here's to a bit of faith restored in the often quick-to-argue Facebook community where more than 2 million people came together for one little boy who felt lonely.
