16 schools across New Mexico are in such horrible shape they need to be torn down and very soon.

It was unveiled to members of the Public School Capital Outlay Oversight Task Force a list of the top 50 schools with construction needs. Out of those 50, 16 need to be torn down.

This also could cause some financial challenges in the future due to the volatile oil and gas market. There are far more projects needed done than there are financial funds available.

The following schools with a * face shut down because of their horrible condition:

  3. Lordsburg – * Southside Elementary School
  4. Reserve – Glenwood Elementary School
  5. Taos – Chrysalis Alternative School
  6. Roswell – Del Norte Elementary School
  7. Espanola – ** Carinos Charter School
  8. Albuquerque – Valle Vista Elementary School
  9. Albuquerque – Monte Vista Elementary School
  10. Alamogordo – Oregon Elementary School
  11. Raton – Columbian Elementary School
  12. Alamogordo – High Rolls Mountain Park Elementary School
  13. Albuquerque – Hubert Humphrey Elementary School
  14. Roswell – Mesa Middle School
  15. Roswell – Nancy Lopez Elementary School
  16. Tatum – Tatum Elementary School
  17. Espanola – Abiquiu Elementary School
  18. Albuquerque – Inez Elementary School
  19. Roswell – Roswell HIGH SCHOOL
  20. Taos – Ranchos de Taos Elementary School
  21. Raton – Longfellow Elementary School
  22. Eunice – Caton MIDDLE SCHOOL
  23. Albuquerque – Zuni Elementary School
  24. Clovis – Highland Elementary School
  25. Albuquerque – Bellehaven Elementary School
  26. Clovis – Cameo Elementary School
  27. Santa Fe – Acequia Madre Elementary School
  28. Albuquerque – Taylor MIDDLE SCHOOL
  29. Farmington – McCormick Elementary School
  30. Clayton – Clayton HIGH SCHOOL
  31. Carlsbad – Pate Elementary School

  35. Roswell – Washington Avenue Elementary School
  36. Jemez Valley – San Diego Riverside Charter School
  37. Carlsbad – Riverside Elementary School
  38. Gallup McKinley – * Lincoln Elementary School
  39. Carlsbad – Sunset Elementary School
  40. Los Alamos – Barranca Mesa Elementary School
  41. Carrizozo – Carrizozo Combined School
  42. Tatum – Tatum Jr./Sr. HIGH SCHOOL

  46. Roswell – Mountain View MIDDLE SCHOOL
  47. Central Consolidated – Newcomb Elementary School
  48. Albuquerque – Eubank Elementary School
  49. Gallup McKinley – Red Rock Elementary School
  50. Albuquerque – Sierra Vista Elementary School

The schools are being given a timeframe to get the construction up to codes before drastic measures are taken.
