Everyone is invited to join in the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run event that benefits local Special Olympics Texas athletes on Saturday, September 24, 2016.

The Annual Sgt. Ruben Orozco 8K Run and 2 Mile Walk honors the memory of Sgt. Ruben Orozco who served 26 years with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Department before losing his life in a tragic automobile accident in 2005. While on the force, Orozco was involved with Special Olympics Texas as a member of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for more than 13 years.

This annual event allows participants to continue Sgt. Ruben Orozco’s legacy, while raising awareness and funds to provide Special Olympics Texas programming and training for more than 2,100 children and adults in the Greater El Paso area.

The competitive 8K run begins at 8 a.m., followed by the 2-mile walk at 8:15 a.m.  Both events are open to the public and will begin at the corner of N. Stanton and Cincinnati Ave.  Entry cost for the race is $25 per runner before Sept. 15. Late registration (after Sept. 15) will be $30 per person.
